It was a super exciting round 1 at Brands Hatch and set the tone for a thrilling Ginetta Junior Season. Fin qualified superbly and himself and Adam laid down a marker for how to qualify. Fin achieved a superb first podium in race 1 and took a strong 3rd place. It was an eventful race with Fin hitting the front immediately, but he went a little dizzy and it turned into a battle royal between Fin, Adam and Del Sarte. In race 2 after receiving a 5 place grid penalty for being too good looking took a 9th place.

In qualifying on Saturday Fin swapped P1 with his team mate Smalley on a number of occasions and took P2.

The race started with Fin firing off the line and getting to the first corner in P1. For the next few laps he swapped places with his teammate Smalley for the race lead with some fantastic racing and pace from the Elite boys. Del Sarte was snapping at their heels and showed TCR had real pace and for the next 10 laps Fin and Del Sarte battled for second place. Del Sarte battled hard from behind and remained aggressive throughout the race. there was some tough racing and with a very sore bumper Fin stood his ground.  Fin showed what an exciting fast racer he is and will excite the crowds throughout the season. The race was a fantastic advert for motor racing and set the season up as a cracker.

It was super clear that Fin had the pace and would contest for honours throughout the season. He also showed a willingness to support his team mate Smalley in qualifying and the race.

After the race Fin was penalised points and a 5 place grid penalty. this was a disappointing action, but Fin recognised whilst a very tough call and bitter pill to swallow he would have to come back stronger.

RACE 2

Fin started from P8 and with rain falling hard. Elite had chosen a set up for damp conditions so pushing hard was difficult. Fin quickly rose to 6th place and kept pushing.  He was struggling for pace and couldn’t reel in Johnson, the race settled into a wet race with boys sliding off at some key corners. Browning, Smalley and Del Sarte were in the first 3 and clear of the chasing pack. Fin kept pushing and the wet conditions hurt him and had a small slide, slipping back to 9th. For the rest of the race Fin pushed but in ever wetter conditions it was a case of taking the points.

It was a fantastic Round 1 in some ways with practice pace, qualifying pace and race pace showing for all to see. Getting on the Podium at Fin’s stage of his race career was a great reward for all his hard work and raw racing speed. The penalties of points and 5 place grid penalty was a tough but all lessons learnt.
Fins fast and going to come back strong in Rounds 2.  Let’s go racing.
